Danny Lee Jacks of Rison, Arkansas served in the army from
1967 to 1970, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He attended Airborne School
and the Light Weapons Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was assigned to
Company G, Rangers, 75th Infantry Regiment, with the 23rd Infantry Division in
Vietnam. He conducted long-range reconnaissance patrols in 1969 and 1970.
Jacks earned numerous awards, including the Silver Star
Medal for gallantry, two Bronze Stars for valor, the Purple Heart, the Air
Medal, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge. In 1970, he led an assault during an
aerial reconnaissance mission, resulting in the destruction of a hostile force.
His leadership and bravery inspired his unit as he marked enemy positions for
airstrikes under intense fire.
In 2005, Staff Sergeant Jacks was inducted into the U.S.
Army Ranger Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, GA, and remains connected with the
Rangers of the 75th Regiment.
