Senior Master Sergeant Prosper Allen "Jack” Meadows, U.S. Air Force (Retired), has dedicated more than 70 years to serving his nation, state, and community—as a decorated airman, volunteer, advocate, and respected leader. Born during an era of global uncertainty, Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 17 on May 10, 1954, with only an eighth-grade education. Over 25 years, he rose to Senior Master Sergeant (E-8), exemplifying dedication, leadership, and lifelong learning. Early in his career, Jack served as a KC-97 aircraft engine mechanic, deploying to eight countries and supporting the first B-52 global flight with aerial refueling over Saudi Arabia. In 1963, he joined the Titan II Intercontinental Ballistic Missile program, earning a "Highly Qualified” rating, participating in successful launches, and later instructing with the 308th Strategic Missile Wing at Little Rock Air Force Base. Throughout his career, Jack held numerous leadership and advisory roles, including Career Assistance Advisor, Equal Opportunity NCO, Inspector General Complaint NCO, Acting First Sergeant, and Professional Military Education Instructor. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Louisiana Tech University and a Master’s in Human Relations from Webster College. His service was recognized with numerous accolades, including Outstanding Airman of the Year and the Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring in 1979, Jack continued his lifelong mission of service. As a founding member of the Jacksonville Museum of Military History, he helped develop the Titan II exhibit, conducts tours and demonstrations, and has brought Cold War history to life for generations. He has been recognized by the Library of Congress Veterans History Project, KATV Channel 7, and 501 Life Magazine, and was named 2024 Veteran of the Year by the Jacksonville Historic District. Jack’s volunteer work spans the community and veteran organizations: supporting CASA as a Lay Therapist, assisting military families as a real estate agent, serving on the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, the NCO Club Advisory Committee, and the Retiree Activities Office at Little Rock AFB, and actively mentoring veterans through the DAV. He has also contributed to programs addressing veteran hunger, senior care, and youth development, including Feed the Veterans, Meals on Wheels, and Bikes for Tykes.
