Sergeant First Class Everett Evans is a decorated combat veteran, respected leader, and tireless advocate for his fellow service members. His lifelong devotion to the military—both in uniform and through decades of volunteer service—has left a profound impact on veterans across Arkansas and beyond. SFC Evans answered his nation’s call to duty with courage and distinction. During his combat tour in the Republic of Vietnam from November 1968 to November 1969, he demonstrated exceptional bravery, professionalism, and tactical skill in one of the most challenging environments in U.S. military history. His valor and dedication were recognized with the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service and the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. Following his return from Vietnam, SFC Evans continued to serve with excellence in leadership and training roles. From 1979 to 1984, he was an instructor at the U.S. Army ROTC Detachment at Arkansas State University, where he taught military leadership, marksmanship, and hunter education—mentoring a generation of future officers. He later served as a Senior Instructor at Fort Leonard Wood, where his work developing Range 30A into a model training site earned widespread recognition. Throughout his career, he held key leadership positions including Platoon Leader and Platoon Sergeant, known for his integrity, discipline, and genuine care for his soldiers. His leadership strengthened MOPH Chapter 708 in Jonesboro and advanced statewide initiatives supporting veterans and their families. He also served with VFW Post 1991, DAV Chapter 26, and the Craighead County Veterans Association/Foundation, where his integrity, compassion, and steadfast commitment continue to inspire others.
