Major James Edward Largent, United States Army Reserve (retired), enlisted in the National Guard and progressed to Senior Non-Commissioned Officer rank of Sergeant First Class. He attended Officer Candidate School, graduating as a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers, and retired as a Major from the Army Reserves in 1992. His awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, and two Army Achievement Medals. Major Largent voluntarily accompanies the Arkansas National Guard Military Honor Guard team, consisting of two enlisted soldiers, performing funeral honors for eligible veterans since 2013. He has participated in almost 500 funerals, averaging about 4000 miles annually using his own vehicle and at personal expense, as retirees are not eligible for reimbursement. Major Largent has expressed his intention to continue working with the team regardless of any challenges related to age.
