Lieutenant Colonel David Harrington, United States Army (Retired), will be posthumously honored this evening with the medallion.
Colonel Harrington joined the U.S. Army in 1958 and
completed Officer Candidate School in 1962. Following OCS, he began training
with the Army's elite Special Forces, the Green Berets. Colonel Harrington
served two combat tours in Vietnam, earning two Bronze Star Medals for
exceptionally meritorious combat achievements, the Meritorious Service Medal,
nine Air Medals, and two Army Commendation Medals. His final assignment was
with the 5th Infantry Division at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Following his retirement from the Army, Mr. Harrington
became Vice President of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry in
Baton Rouge, LA. Upon returning to Arkansas, he was appointed Director of the
Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. He was subsequently appointed by
Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton to the
Intergovernmental Policy Committee to the U.S. Trade Commission and to the
Industry Advisory Committee to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce.
