Thomas Blodgett Arwood of Hot Springs Village was
commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1961. He
served for 34 years in the Infantry and Quartermaster branches, achieving the
rank of Major General. His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the
Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, two
awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, and two awards of the Army
Commendation Medal. He also holds the Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
General Arwood participated in four campaigns in Vietnam and
held commands in Germany and Saudi Arabia. During the 1973 conflict between
Israel and Arab nations, he was placed under house arrest. He also played a
role in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, where he was responsible for logistical
planning and battlefield support. Additionally, he assembled a support package
for deployment to Somalia and served as overall commander. Prior to his
retirement, he served as Army Materiel Commander Forward, executing relief
operations for Hurricane Andrew.
General Arwood holds a Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green
University, a Master's in Personnel Management from the University of Richmond,
and a diploma in International Relations from Harvard University. He has also
served on the staff and faculty at West Point and commanded units of more than
10,000 soldiers. After retiring, he spent six years as Vice President for
Defense Contracting at Lockheed Martin. In 2012, he was inducted into the US
Army Quartermaster Hall of Fame.
