Larry Ray Graves of Harrisburg, AR, enlisted in the Air Force in 1966. He served as a C123 loadmaster, attended training in survival courses, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross in Vietnam for extraordinary achievement. His aircraft, carrying explosive fuel, was hit by ground fire, necessitating an emergency landing. Sergeant Graves quickly offloaded the aircraft and used a fire extinguisher to prevent a fire and protect his crew. He also received four Air Medals during his combat service in Vietnam.
