Lieutenant Colonel Aubrey B. Stacy of the United States Army
is from Malvern. Lieutenant Colonel Stacy graduated as a distinguished military
graduate from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia in 1966. He completed
two combat infantry tours in Vietnam, where he earned two Silver Star medals,
two Bronze Star medals (one with V device for valor), two Purple Hearts, and an
Air Medal. He retired in 1989 after more than 22 years of service.
On April 23, 1968, First Lieutenant Infantry Aubrey Bruce
Stacy received the Silver Star medal for gallantry during military operations
against an enemy force. On June 23, 1967, Lieutenant Stacy acted heroically
while serving as a platoon leader with Company 1/4 Battalion, 23rd Infantry
Regiment, 25th Infantry Division in the Republic of Vietnam. When his platoon
sustained casualties, Lieutenant Stacy placed his men in position and attacked
enemy emplacements, successfully overrunning them and pursuing the Vietcong
amidst heavy explosions. Despite his radio being rendered useless, he exposed
himself to enemy fire to signal his men, resulting in many insurgent
casualties.
Lieutenant Stacy's actions demonstrated bravery,
aggressiveness, and dedication to duty, reflecting credit upon himself, his
unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army. He is the first
recipient from Malvern.
